Usage
High refractive index 1.93-2, chemical stability, is a kind of high-quality, inexpensive opacifier, is widely used in the production of various architectural ceramics, sanitary ceramics, daily ceramics, first-class handicraft ceramics, etc. In the processing and production of ceramic glazes, it has a wide range of uses and a large amount of applications. The reason why zirconium silicate is widely used in ceramic production is also because of its good chemical stability, so it is not affected by the firing atmosphere of ceramics, and can significantly improve the bonding properties of ceramic glazes and improve the hardness of ceramic glazes. Zirconium silicate has also been further applied in the production of color picture tubes in the TV industry, emulsified glass in the glass industry, and enamel glazes. The melting point of zirconium silicate is high: 2500 degrees Celsius, so it is also widely used in refractory materials, glass furnace zirconium ramming materials, castables, and spray coatings.
When high-performance zirconium silicate has two conditions of whitening and stability, it is better than conventional zirconium silicate in the properties of zirconium silicate powder, particle morphology, particle size range, dispersion performance in medium, and opaciousness segregation after brick or glaze application.
The whitening effect of zirconium silicate is due to the formation of oblique zircon after ceramic firing, which forms scattering of incident ray waves. This scattering is generally referred to as large particle scattering or MieScattering. Combined with theoretical calculations and actual powder production conditions, controlling the d50 value of high-performance zirconium silicate below 1.4um and the d90 value below 4.0um (subject to the measured value of a laser particle analyzer made in Japan) will produce the best opacity whitening effect. In the whitening effect of zirconium silicate, the concentrated particle size range is very important, and the narrow distribution of particles is required as much as possible during the grinding process of zirconium silicate.
