Usage
N-Bromosuccinimide, commonly abbreviated as NBS, is a fine crystalline substance that is white to off-white in color. It is soluble in acetone, tetrahydrofuran, N,N-dimethylformamide, dimethyl sulfoxide, and acetonitrile, slightly soluble in water and acetic acid, and insoluble in ether, hexane, and carbon tetrachloride. NBS is often used in the free radical bromination reactions of allyl and benzyl groups; the electrophilic bromination reactions of ketones, aromatic compounds, or heterocyclic compounds; the hydroxylation, etherification, and lactonization reactions of olefins. NBS is sensitive to moisture and should be stored in a refrigerator. During the use process, inhalation or contact with the skin should be avoided, and it is generally operated in a fume hood with good ventilation performance.
Used as a reagent for identifying primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols. It can be used to synthesize bromoacetonitrile drugs. In the pesticide industry, it is used to synthesize thiabendazole and can also be used as a fruit preservative, antiseptic, and mildew - proof agent, etc. It is an organic synthesis raw material, used to regulate low - energy bromination reactions, and also used in the production of rubber additives and pharmaceuticals. It can be used to synthesize bromoacetonitrile for medicine. In the pesticide industry, it is used to synthesize thiabendazole and can also be used as a fruit preservative, antiseptic, and mildew - proof agent. Used as a reagent for identifying primary, secondary, and tertiary alcohols and an additive for rubber products, and also used in organic synthesis. It is an important brominating agent in organic synthesis. In the pharmaceutical industry, it is often used as a brominating agent in the synthesis of antibiotics, such as the synthesis of cefaloram. Organic synthesis. Bromination of olefins. Oxidation of ethanol to aldehydes and ketones. Oxidation of aldehydes to bromo - acids. Multi - functional brominating agent. It is used in the oxidation reaction of tryptophan, but the oxidation degree of tyrosine, histidine, and methionine residues may be relatively low. It can also be used for the modification of ribosomal thiol groups. It is a universal brominating agent. In the presence of AIBN, silyl ethers can be oxidized to aldehydes. It is a universal brominating reagent; used for the oxidation of tryptophan, although there may be tyrosine, histidine, and methionine oxidation residues to a lesser extent; used for the group modification of ribosomal thiol groups; in the presence of AIBN, silyl ethers are oxidized to aldehydes.
