It has a high octane value and is therefore widely used as an additive in gasoline
Usage
Isooctane is a standard fuel for determining the octane number (seismic resistance) of gasoline, mainly used as an additive in gasoline, aviation gasoline, etc.,
as well as a non-polar inert solvent in organic synthesis. Isooctane is a standard substance for testing the anti knock performance of gasoline.
The octane values of isooctane and heptane are specified as 100 and 0, respectively. The gasoline sample is placed in a single cylinder engine, and under specified test conditions,
if its anti knock performance is equivalent to a certain composition of isooctane heptane mixture, the octane number of the sample is equal to the volume percentage of isooctane in the standard fuel.
Gasoline with good anti knock performance has a high octane rating.
