Dodecyl primary amine, also known as 1-aminododecane, laurylamine or dodecylamine, is colorless or white crystalline. This product shows weak alkalinity and can form salts with inorganic acids or organic acids. It can be quaternized. It can be acetylated when reacting with ethylene oxide. It can undergo addition reactions with unsaturated hydrocarbons. This product can be oxidized by peroxides. When reacting with halogenated carboxylic acids, it can generate amphoteric compounds. When reacting with acyl chlorides, it can form amides. It can undergo the Mannich reaction with nucleophiles or phenols to generate multifunctional substances. When reacting with hydrochloric acid, dodecylamine hydrochloride is formed.

It is used for the production of surfactants, mineral flotation agents, dodecyl quaternary ammonium salts, fungicides, pesticides, emulsifiers, detergents and so on. It is an intermediate in organic synthesis and is used in the production of auxiliaries for the textile and rubber industries. It can also be used to produce ore flotation agents, dodecyl quaternary ammonium salts, fungicides, insecticides, emulsifiers, detergents and special disinfectants with excellent effects in preventing skin burns, nourishing body fluid and resisting bacteria. It is used as an active agent in geological analysis and also in chromatographic analysis. It is used in organic synthesis and serves as a stationary liquid for chromatography.
