 Usage

Polymers are prepared through homopolymerization or copolymerization. Acrylic acid and its series of products, mainly its esters, have witnessed rapid development in recent years for applications in coatings, adhesives, solid resins, molding compounds and so on. Just like ethylene, propylene, vinyl chloride, acrylonitrile, etc., they have developed into important raw materials for the polymer chemical industry. As monomers of polymer compounds, the total global output of acrylic acid and its esters has exceeded one million tons, and the output of polymers and copolymers (mainly emulsion resins) made from them is nearly five million tons. The applications of these resins cover numerous sectors such as coatings, plastics, textiles, leather, papermaking, building materials and packaging materials. Acrylic acid and its esters can be used for organic synthesis and polymer synthesis, and the vast majority are used for the latter. Moreover, they are more often copolymerized with other monomers, such as vinyl acetate, styrene, methyl methacrylate, etc., to produce synthetic resins with various properties, functional polymer materials and various auxiliaries. Main application fields: (1) Warp sizing agents: Warp sizing agents formulated with raw materials such as acrylic acid, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, acrylonitrile and ammonium polyacrylate are easier to desize than polyvinyl alcohol sizing agents and can save starch. (2) Adhesives: Copolymer latexes made from acrylic acid, methyl acrylate, ethyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, etc., can be used as adhesives for electrostatic flocking and hair implantation, with good fastness and hand feel. (3) Water thickeners: High-molecular-weight powders made from copolymers of acrylic acid and ethyl acrylate can be used as thickeners in oil fields. Each ton of the product can increase the production of crude oil by 500 tons and has a good effect on oil production in old wells. (4) Coated paper finishing agents: Quaternary copolymer latexes made from acrylic acid, butyl acrylate, 2-ethylhexyl acrylate, styrene, etc., are used as coatings for coated paper. They can maintain color without yellowing, have good printing performance and do not stick to rollers. They are better than styrene-butadiene latexes and can save casein. (5) Polyacrylate salts: Various polyacrylate salt products (such as ammonium salts, sodium salts, potassium salts, aluminum salts, nickel salts, etc.) can be produced using acrylic acid. They are used as flocculants, water treatment agents, dispersants, thickeners, food preservatives, acid and alkali resistant desiccants, softeners and various polymer auxiliaries.
